Why This Recipe Supports Postpartum Mood

You don’t need a complicated recipe to nourish your body after birth. These simple ingredients work together to provide steady energy and nutrients your recovering body needs.

Lean Turkey: Turkey is an excellent source of high-quality protein, which supports tissue repair and helps keep blood sugar stable. It also contains tryptophan, an amino acid the body uses to produce serotonin, along with vitamin B6, which plays an important role in neurotransmitter production.

Hummus: Made from chickpeas and tahini, hummus provides plant-based protein, fiber, magnesium, iron, and healthy unsaturated fats. The fiber helps slow digestion, promoting steadier blood sugar and helping you stay satisfied longer between meals.

Whole Wheat Tortilla: Whole grains provide complex carbohydrates that deliver a slow, steady release of energy rather than the rapid spikes and crashes that refined grains can cause. Stable energy can be especially helpful during the physically demanding postpartum period.

Spinach: Spinach is rich in folate, magnesium, vitamin C, and iron. Iron is especially important after childbirth, when blood loss can leave many mothers feeling fatigued. Vitamin C also supports immune health.

Carrots & Bell Pepper (Optional): These colorful vegetables provide antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C. The vitamin C from bell peppers helps your body absorb the plant-based iron found in spinach and hummus more efficiently.

Avocado (Optional): Avocado contributes heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, potassium, and fiber. Healthy fats support brain health while helping keep you full and satisfied.

Hemp Hearts (Optional): Hemp hearts provide plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, zinc, and additional protein. These nutrients play important roles in supporting nervous system function and overall brain health.

Pro Tips for Busy Moms

Meal Prep Ahead: Assemble two or three wraps at once and wrap them tightly in parchment paper or plastic wrap. They’ll keep well in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Keep It Flexible: Swap turkey for rotisserie chicken, grilled chicken, or canned salmon depending on what you have available.

Boost Healthy Fats: Add sliced avocado or sprinkle hemp hearts, chia seeds, or ground flaxseed inside the wrap for an extra nutrition boost.

Pair It Wisely: Enjoy your wrap with fresh berries, orange slices, or kiwi. The vitamin C can help improve iron absorption while adding extra antioxidants.

Make It Breastfeeding Friendly: Pair with a large glass of water or milk to help support hydration during breastfeeding.
